Flag of Mexico

The colors of the flag are green, white, and red.

The green stands for the independence Movement.

The white stands for the purity of Catholic faith

and the red stands for the blood of the national heroes.

In the center of the flag is an emblem of an eagle eating a snake, representing the beginning of Mexico.

A legend says that an Aztec god told the Aztecs to find an Eagle in the middle of a lake,

standing on a prickly pear cactus, eating a serpent-and start a city there.

Special Days

Mexico's Day of the Dead Celebrations
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday in which families remember their dead, place altars in their homes and decorate tombs in cemeteries.  On the Day of the Dead, families celebrate with relatives who have passed away.  Mexicans believe that the spirits will come and eat all that is on the table prepared for them.

Independence Day is a major celebration in Mexico.

The actual day of September 16 is similar to Fourth of July in the United States. There are rodeos, parades, bullfights and horseback rider performances. In cities with large Mexican communities outside of Mexico, the Mexican Consul does the traditional "Grito". The show usually features traditional Mexican dances, singers, a rock group formed by Mexican students and of course, the "mariachis."

20 de noviembre - Día de la Revolución
November 20th is Revolution Day in Mexico, the day the Mexican revolution is commemorated.

For this city’s annual Night of the Radishes, the humble plants are transformed into saints, animals, dancers, conquistadors, the revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata, even the Virgin Mary. Forget little round American radishes. The ideal medium for artistic expression is a long, thick-skinned variety that can grow up to 20 inches in length and weigh as much as seven pounds. Its contorted shape and twisted roots resemble Chinese ginseng.
