Georgia Keys – Community Involvement

Based on the rubric designed by the Georgia Department of Education, our school is in the “operational” or “fully operational” stages for community involvement.  This area addresses 1) communication between school, parents and community, 2) school promotes parenting skills, 3) parent outreach and training programs, 4) parents and community members feel welcome at school.  LSAC Committee members will analyze this document in detail and discuss at the next meeting to prioritize our goals in this area.

III. New Business

Building Renovation –

Due to the physical condition of a rising fifth grader, the fifth grade classes will

need to remain in the building next year.  Fourth grade teachers will move to the trailers on the field.

Personnel Changes –

Half-time assistant with special needs pre-kindergarten class – Allison Stewart

Fifth grade assistant – Kris Mock

Fund Raisers –

Many fund raising opportunities are posed to the school on a regular basis.  The LSAC needs to have criteria for deciding which future fundraisers we will support.  Ideas include:  One charitable drive at a time.  No more than five a year.  Who is behind them? -  PTA or individual organizations (girl scouts, boy scouts, etc.)  Exceptions, of course, can be considered.   Adam will check to see what the Rotary policy is and gather some ideas from them.  A procedure will be developed and implemented next year.

Book Study –

Whatever It Takes book study starts.  Mixed reaction from ten different discussion groups.  Next time – each group may post notes on Google docs to share with other groups.  Lit Circle format might work best – there are assignments.  Jobs include timer, facilitator, note-taker, speaker, Google doc recorder, etc.

Budget –

Preliminary allotments for staff for next year – no concern at this point about losing any teachers.

Richard Ziemba – paying him a stipend to troubleshoot technology, although the county has not yet given him administrative rights.

            No laptop for Elizabeth Rosenberg..

Next meeting:

Draft on fundraiser policies and request form for fundraising projects

Discussion on Community Involvement rubric

Budget update
