Mountain Park Elementary honored by state for excellence
2.25.2003

State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox has announced that Mountain Park Elementary is one of eight Georgia schools nominated for the national No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools Program.

The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbons Schools Program, established by U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige, honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement. The program requires Blue Ribbon recipients to meet either of two assessment criteria: dramatic improvement of at least 40% of the school's disadvantaged students in state math and reading assessments, and overall student achievement in the top 10% statewide on reading and math assessments. Mountain Park Elementary was nominated under the second criterion.

This most recent honor for Mountain Park follows the school’s 2001 selection as a Georgia School of Excellence.

Secretary Paige will announce the 2003 No Child Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools in September, and the selected schools will be honored with a ceremony in Washington, DC.
