Technology

Harriet Collingwood, Technology Specialist

Mountain Park Elementary teachers and administrators envision the school community becoming life-long learners by using contemporary technology to serve as a catalyst for extending, enriching and enhancing learning experiences.

For this reason, computer technology is very important at
Mountain Park Elementary School. Teachers take attendance, sign up for the computer lab, find student vital information, and communicate with other teachers and parents on a daily basis on their laptops.   Students come to the computer lab with their regular education classes and other specialists.

This year, students in the higher grades have spent time on projects involving integrated research methods, which include periodicals, books and Internet research. These projects, called the “Independent Investigative Method, or IIM” culminated in a slide show presentation in PowerPoint. Students were proud of their use of technology for these research projects.

Most
Mountain Park students also use the computers for keyboarding with the Type to Learn program, writing papers using Microsoft Office, practicicng math with Carnival Countdown, Calculating Crew, Number Heroes, and Zoo Zillions. Even the smallest children get in on the action with KidPix and Accelerated Reader.
